Canada has issued more than 645000 work permits in just 2022.

There are multiple options available for international workers to enter into Canada. Canada has two main programs for foreign workers. I.e., International Mobility Program (IMP) and Temporary Foreign Work Program (TFWP) to work in Canada. To assess the two programs the TFWP requires labor market test, known as the Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). Let's talk about more in detail.

International Mobility Program

Canadian employers may hire international workers to work in Canada on a work visa under the International Mobility Program (IMP). Under this program, employers from Canada do not need to have a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). The IMP program is a group effort and administrated by the Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Immigration, and the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA), and the employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) to promote Canada's cultural and economic interests.

Who is eligible for IMP?

Employees entering Canada under certain trade agreements such as the North American Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement (CETA) or Employees with an open Canadian work visa who enter Canada and the Workers being transferred pointer-companies to Canada.

Temporary Foreign Work Program (TFWP)

This program is primarily managed by Immigration and Employment, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and Social Development Canada (ESDC). The program permits Canadian employers to respond to shortages of workers by allowing them by hiring internationally trained workers. That been said, the employers in Canada have to ensure that Canadian Permanent Residents and Canadian Citizens have priority in filling those vacant spots first. Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is required to be completed by employers looking to hire under the TFWP.

What is Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)?

It is a document that is presented as proof and it has a positive or neutral impact on the Canadian labour market if an employer hires foreign workers.

Spousal Open Work Permits

As foreign trade skilled workers are authorized to work in Canada, they may require their spouse and dependent children to join them in Canada. In this matter, a Canadian spouse work visa can make this possible. Canadian spouse work visa permits spouse to interact with the local community, earn a living through the profitable job, and permit for family reunification. It also permits children to study in Canada at kindergarten, elementary, middle, and or high school levels. The application for a Spousal Canada work visa can be submitted in conjunction with the principal Canadian work permit application. Permits for spousal open work allow your spouse to work for any employer in any type of employment. Job requirements must satisfy the minimum level of competence required for the specific job (NOTE: if the principal's work permit is issued under NOC, C or D codes, then a spouse's open work permit cannot be applied for).

Global Talent Stream Permits

Global Talent Stream permits certain skilled workers to obtain a Canadian working Visa within two weeks after applying. It is one of the pillars of Canada's Global Skills Strategy. It aims to help companies grow by ensuring they are able to access the high-level talent within no-time. For highly skilled talent another initiative besides others, this workstream establishes a two-week standard for the processing of Canada work Visa applications (and temporary resident visas, if applicable).

Global Talent Stream is part of the Canadian Temporary Foreign Workers Program.
